Person admits sex offences against children at youth camp
An individual who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the location in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention before a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had concerns in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man continued to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the law enforcement a second time.
She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
