Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks his initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after that period of that year.
The win also indicates he has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.
His defensive play style and regular emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.
However the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
He came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional title, took control to create a third set.
Moutet rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, the winner secured victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
